Sustainable Choice is different in several important ways:
• We only match 100% clean energy from solar, wind, and hydro. Many of our competitors source from pollution emitting facilities burning trash, wood, or animal waste. These competitors cannot truthfully represent the emissions benefits they claim. Always check the fine print.
• No conflicts of interest. We don’t contribute to any fossil fuel production. Competitors often have a conflict of interest as they provide clean energy services while also generating electricity from fossil fuels.
• We donate one percent of all sales environmental non-profits as a member of 1% for the planet.
• Owned and operated by environmental advocates not by utilities.
Our Solar+Wind and All Solar memberships are both Green-e Certified, which means they meet the quality criteria of the GHG Protocol Scope 2 market-based method. That makes them an appropriate input for your Scope 2 inventory, whether you report through CDP, SBTi, GRI, B Corp, or any other framework built on the GHG Protocol. We provide monthly impact statements documenting the project type, generation amount, and pollution prevented attributable to your account, so you have what you need at year-end
Each month we detail your progress through in a monthly impact statement included in your order email. You also gain access to your own clean energy dashboard where you can track your progress and earn milestones. Your clean energy dashboard will also detail the impact the Sustainable Choice membership is making on the supply of clean energy in the U.S.
With Sustainable Choice there is no change to your electric provider. You do not have to go through the hassle and pain of switching utilities. You will remain with your current utility and they will continue to provide you with service and respond to outages.
Rather than focusing on individual homes or businesses, our mission is to shift the U.S. grid to clean energy and away from fossil fuels.
The grid mixes all sources together both clean and dirty. At any individual home it is impossible to tell whether clean electrons are in use. The environmental impact happens at the supply level, not the delivery level. The supply level is where the climate impact happens, so that is where we focus.
Sustainable Choice is itself a 1% for the Planet member. We donate one percent of all sales to vetted environmental nonprofits. Your membership is independent of any 1% commitments your brand makes, so there's no conflict and no double-counting. Many of our customers carry the 1% for the Planet badge themselves.
